Concord Chorale Chamber Singers
A musical celebration to start the 2010 season at Canterbury Shaker Village as members of the Concord Chorale wiill perform arrangements of Shaker songs by New Hampshire composers Kevin Siegrfied and William Fletcher, as well as Aaron Copland and Dale Warland. The program will include Shaker songs written by the Shakers of Canterbury.

Composer and Shaker music scholar Kevin Siegfried will perform a solo concert of Shaker music. The program will highlight the diverse musical styles of the Shakers, including songs originally composed here at Canterbury Shaker Village. A passionate musician and teacher, Kevin has done a great deal to popularize the music of the Shakers, and his award-winning choral arrangements of Shaker songs have been recorded and performed all over the world.

femme m'amie
This highly acclaimed a cappella group, whose name means "woman, my friend," will perform selections from their diverse repertoire, including Shaker music. Sharing a woman's view of the world, femme m'amie delights audiences with their pitch perfect harmonies, full arrangements, and simple elegance. Concert begins at 5pm. Admission is $22.00 per person for the Concert only.

The Gospel Music Project
Members of this Seacoast-based non-denominational choir will perform music from all gospel traditions including Negro spirituals, black gospel, white Southern gospel, folk and blues gospel, as well as Shaker music and a few secular songs that bring a message of hope, joy, and belief in the greater good of the human spirit. Led by vocalist Dawn Boyer, this group's music was featured in the PBS Series, "Freedom Songs: Music of the Civil Rights Movement." Concert begins at 3pm. Admission includes tours, exhibits, demonstrations, and concert.

A Shaker Spirit Day
Canterbury Shaker Village opens its 2010 season with Hands to Work, Hearts to God, A Shaker Spirit Day, sponsored by Elektrisola, Inc. Come celebrate spring at the 2010 season opening of Canterbury Shaker Village. Come early to run in or watch the Canterbury Cross Country 5K and enjoy music from bluegrass group High Range and folk dancing. Then step back in time to revisit Shaker traditions of the season. Watch an authentic plow match and enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides by members of the Granite State Draft Horse and Pony Association. See bee keeping, a wool-to-cloth demonstration, broom making, oval box making, see planting, letterpress printing, and enjoy a picnic lunch out on the grounds. Musical performance by The Canterbury Shaker Singers. Children's activities. Admission to the event includes all regular museum tours, exhibits, and demonstrations: $17 for adults, $8 for children ages 6-17, children 5 and under are free, $42 family rate (includes 2 adults and 3 children). Grappone Automotive Canterbury Cross Country Challenge 5K

The 3rd annual rain or shine cross country 5k running/walking event to benefit Canterbury Shaker Village. Nicknamed "totally unpaved...totally beautiful," the 5k course will cover the grounds of the Village using established trails, as well as fields and road. To pre-register, visit Grappone Automotive. Registration for the race begins at 8:30am. Prizes awarded for men and women. Admission includes race entry, tours and museum: $20 per person (adult or child). Bring your dog and enjoy the fields and walking trails across the 600 acres of the Village. See canine sport demonstrations including agility and fly ball and try them with your dog! Enter the Dewey Scavenger Hunt and photo contests. See the New England K9 Search and Rescue demonstration and demonstrations on first aid and holistic care for companion animals. Shop for gifts for your favorite animal companions at the Dewey Emporium. Donation bins to benefit local shelters. Outdoor grill lunch available in addition to regular restaurant hours. Sponsored by Elektrisola. Herbs are simple and prolific garden pleasure, but besides basil pesto, what can you make with these flavor-packed fresh herbs? We will discuss and demonstrate simple ways to turn common garden herbs into delicious meals. From savory dishes like pasta tossed with fine herbs and roasted vegetables with rosemary and thyme to sweets like peppermint brownies and lemon balm pound cake.

Stroll through the beautiful herb gardens of Canterbury Shaker Village and step back into the rich natural and healing history these lands once offered the world. In the Shaker's prime, their medicinal herbs were among the best quality in the world, used throughout the U.S. and exported to doctors in Europe and elsewhere. We'll visit replications of the Shaker gardens and learn how to use these plants medicinally - a useful skill that is coming back into our culture's life. You will learn how to harvest, process, and use these lovely garden plants for natural medicine. Dress appropriately. Class will be held rain or shine.

Dry-Laid Stone Walls

THIS IS A 2-DAY WORKSHOP (OCTOBER 2 & 3)
Instructor: Kevin Fife
Fee: $135 non-member & $121.50 member
Historic stone walls are an integral feature of Canterbury Shaker Village and New Hampshire. During this two-day hands-on workshop, Kevin Fife, specialist of stone wall construction, will explain how to repair existing dry laid stone walls and how to construct new ones. Included are the processes of picking, sorting, and moving stone. Work boots and work gloves are recommended. Necessary tools are supplied, though stone tools are welcome. No experience necessary.

DIY Natural Bodycare: Simple Recipes for Beauty & Health
Why buy synthetic and expensive bodycare items when you can make them easily! We will go "from soup to nuts" and make body lotion, lip balm, massage oil, aromatherapy spray, and body scrubs. Many of these recipes are easily adapted to soothe common summertime concerns including sunburns, bug bites, poison ivy, and foot fungus, as well as repelling mosquitoes and ticks.

This workshop is offered on two different dates. Choose the date that works for you! A photography workshop focused on the historic and environmental setting of Canterbury Shaker Village. A presentation of photographs of Canterbury Shaker Village and other historic locations will be followed with an exploration of the Village with your digital camera. If you are a frequent visitor to the Village, the workshop is intended to help you discover new visual aspects. If you have never paid a visit, the workshop will help you use photography to capture its essence. At the end of the day, the new digital images will be shared. For anyone comfortable with using an adjustable digital camera (SLR preferred). Film cameras may also be used, however, there are no facilities to process the film on location.
